THINGS TO CONSIDER BEFORE PURCHASING NATURAL STONEDAILY CARE & MAINTAINENCETHINGS TO KEEP AWAY FROM YOUR BENCHESSEALING YOUR NATURAL STONE BENCHTOPLODGE A SERVICE CALL

things to consider

terms & conditions of your purchase

A: Natural Stone will have variations in colour, tones, texture, pattern, vein, structure, finish and dimensions.Natural Stone may also have pitting, fine fissures and veins. There may be variations within the stone. All Bunnings Store samples , brochure & website images are only an indication of vein & colour.

B: Some or all the below points may be applicable to your natural stone purchase.

  1.  Pitting (varying in size) may be evident throughout the stone surface.
  2. Variations within the stone. Samples or images viewed are only an indication of colour and vein.
  3. Differing degrees of polish from one slab to another, or within the same slab.
  4. Fissures and/or graze marks may be evident throughout the material. Initially these may not be visible, however they may become apparent during.
  5. manufacturing and/or after installation due to construction movement and moisture absorption.
  6. Resin fill (cement based where required) may be used throughout stone preparation.
  7. Variation in stone thickness can be upto 2 mm.
  8. Any change in direction ( L SHAPES) will require a Join.

C: All openings (Under-mounted Sinks, etc.) will show the thickness of the Stone and not the Edge Profile. It will be finished with straight and arris edge around the rim.

D: All stone is susceptible to staining. It is noted that etching, dullness or water marks may still occur in the stone even though it is sealed (penetrating/impregnated regular sealer)

E: Stone work will only be caulked to a finished painted surface or finish panels/joinery. At no time Petra Global is responsible to scribe stone around out of square or irregular walls or caulking to these areas.

F: Overhangs are rarely consistent and will vary to allow installer to obtain parallel joints with adjoining pieces.

G: Joints are inevitable. An indication of the location can be given, however, join location is at Petra Global’s discretion at any stage. Joints are within the following tolerances (2.5mm +/- 1mm).

H: Some slight stepping along the joint (also known as ‘lipping’) may be present due to the irregular surface of the stone.

I: Vein matching ( where possible ) can be done at additional cost, all care will be taken to match veining from one slab to another, however, a perfect match may not be possible. please discuss this with us by contacting our office before confirming your order.

J: Petra Global reserves the right to patch, fill, reinforce and repair breaks, opened veins and/or chips due to natural defects

K: Maximum overhang allowed without structural support is 300mm. Overhangs exceeding 300mm will require structural support which is to be provided by the customer. Structural support must be discussed on check measure.

L: Do not book any post bench installation trades ( tiling , electricians / plumbers )  until your stone bench is successfully installed. Whilst utmost care is taken all through measure to installation , like with any custom made products - some unknown / unexpected anomalies can cause your benchtop installation completion delays. Petra Global or any of its contractors will not be liable for any part of / costs associated with rebooking trades in event of such unexpected delays.

CARE & MAINTAINENCE

DAILY CARE FOR YOUR BENCH

Please follow the below daily care guidelines for care & maintenance of your stone benchtops

Coasters

Where possible – use coasters under all glasses specially the ones containing citrus or alcohol.

Avoid heat / Direct Contact with Hot products

While Stone was withstand heat but it is recommended to use trivets / Heat Proof Mats under under pots an pans. A pot direct off the stove top can cause the bench to crack to due to thermal shock.

Spills

Blot the spill with paper towel / lint free cloth immidiately – do not wipe as it may spread the spill. Flush the area with warm soapy water & rinse several time and dry thoroughly with a soft cloth.

Air Fryers

Air Fryers are not recommended directly over the benchtop due to heat from the product. Use a trivet under the appliance.

Weight on benchtop

Under no circumstances , anyone shall climb up or sit on the natural stone benchtop, This may result in a crack / breakage of the benchtop. This also applies to anything heavy sitting permanently on bench (example Aquarium )

Cleaning

Do Not use sandpaper or any cleaners that contain grit / abrasives to clean natural stone surface. We recommend cleaning surface with clean , soft cloth and fresh warm water.

Cutting Boards

Use a anti slip mat under the chopping board & do not use cutting knives direct onto the benchtop.

KEEP THESE AWAY FROM NATURAL STONE SURFACES

While it is possible to remove stains on clean natural stone products using certain tools and cleaning products , there is no guarantee that these methods will work effectively. We recommend extra care if any of the below comes in contact with your natural stone benchtops

  • Oil based stains such as Grease , Tar , Oil & Cosmetics
  • Organic stains such as Coffee, Tea, Citrus, Tobacco, Urine, Bird Droppings Etc.
  • Inorganic metal stains such as Wrought Iron, Rust, Copper, Bronze Utensils.
  • Paint & ink Stains

Many of the above mentioned stains can be avoided by sealing the potentially porous stone benches. Use of a sealer will either provide enough time to remove the spill before any permanent staining can occur or minimise the extent of damage.

SEALING YOUR STONE BENCHTOPS

Your Petra Global Natural Stone comes in sealed from the factory when we install it , we strongly recommend to seal you natural stone benchtop once every 8 – 12 months. A sealer is a solution applied to the surface of natural stone to protect it from staining.

We recommend using Impregnator / Penetrating sealers as they are the most effective type of liquid sealer, used to protect natural marble, limestone, travertine, onyx and granite benchtops, bar tops, table and vanities from staining.

A penetrating sealer works by soaking deep into the stone benchtop and filling the gaps in the pores of the stone.  The molecules in the sealer bond with the minerals in the stone to form an effective barrier. Before sealing always:

  • Read the manufacturer’s Instructions.
  • The day prior to the stone benchtop being sealed, the stone shall be properly cleaned to remove grease, oil, dirt and contaminants. If the stains are deep, the benchtop may require polishing or honing.
  • The day after cleaning, restoration or repair, two thick coats of penetrating sealer shall be applied to the stone benchtop, with 10 minutes in between applications.  Before the first coat of sealer dries completely the second coat shall be applied.
  • Once the sealer has settled into the stone, the residue shall be buffed off with a towel.
  • The stone benchtop can be used immediately; however water must not touch the sealed stone surface for at least 6 hours for a water based sealer or 12 hours for a solvent based sealer.
